What our teachers and students say about how they benefit from the proceeds of the auction gala: |
|
| Thank you so much for the new
science units! The science lab is full of excitement! The kids are
elbows deep in hands-on experiments, asking questions and planning
experiments. Thank you for supporting the development of the lower
school science curriculum. I recently asked the fourth grade students what they liked best about the chemistry unit. Here is what a few of them had to say: "I enjoyed the chemistry unit because we used alka seltzer and water in the rockets... it exploded! It was awesome!. I also liked then welearned about atoms. It was hard but fun!" -Carlin Smart, 4th grade "I liked the chemistry unit because there was so much to do and during chemical reactions it was exciting to see what would happen. The things I liked the best were the rockets and I also liked when we went outside and a bag exploded. I liked everything." -Marina Romero, 4th grade "I liked how we mixed chemicals in a bag because you really got to feel it if was hot or cold and we got to see how much the bag blew up." -Milla Stern, 4th grade "I learned much more than I expected!" - Julianne Martin, 4th grade "I like the chemistry unit because we learn about atoms and molecules and we get to watch things explode and fizz. Chemistry Rocks!" -Brandon Camp, 4rth grade "I liked the chemistry unit because the experiments where fun and I learned a lot. Thank you Mrs. Beaver and the Parent Association!" -Nikta Shahbaz, 4th grade Natalie Beaver - Lower School Science Coordinator |

Having the ability to
provide a wide variety of literature, non-fiction texts, and
research resources in the classroom is invaluable. The PA wish list

| The Parent's Association
contribution to the ECC has made a significant difference in our
playground activities. This year we purchased a climbing dome which
the children are always enjoying. We replaced two sets of waffle
blocks with which the children continually build and create. And to
help build their imagination we purchased zoo, farm and water
animals, insects and reptiles to enhance block play. We also
received $200 per class for books to add to our classroom libraries.
Thanks to the Parent's Association we have a variety of different
activities going on each day. Patricia Stickels - ECC Pre-K Teacher |
| The Lower School music program
greatly benefits from funds raised by the auction. Every year, our
students are visited by the San Diego Opera, which does a
kid-friendly production in the FFT for the students. It is exciting
to our students' view of the world expanded by these visiting
artists. In addition Wish List money has purchased most of the
classroom instruments that the LS use in my classroom -- including our Orff xylophones and glockenspiels, and our collection of hand drums. Recently, a large, generous donation purchased a new Steinway piano, which is in the FFT. I was so excited to use if for our latest Grandparents' Day concerts -- it is a beautiful instrument, and a joy to play! I talk to other music teachers in town all the time, and know how hard they have to work to fund raise for instruments and music. I am grateful that our school community and our Parents' Association is willing to put the time and effort into finding these funds, so that I can focus on becoming the bestteacher I can be. Dedication like this makes Country Day a school like no other. Wendy Wareham - Lower School Music |
| Jeanette Alessio-Way also known as
the "History Lady" created a presentation about Native Americans for
our 2nd grade students. She had tremendous knowledge about Kumeyaay
tribe and shared many interesting facts with the students. Jeanette
also brought 3 tables full of Native American artifacts. The 45
minute presentation ended up taking a hour and a half because the
children were so interested in her presentation and artifacts. Alisa Ronis - Teacher Grade 2 |
